🦢 Starting small. Jessica started developing the habit of working out by spending 30 minutes per day in a local community gym.

πŸ’ͺ Building muscle. “I tried diet pills, cardio, and different fad diets but the weight would always come back.” Things changed once Jessica committed to strength training.

⚑ Not waiting for inspiration. Much of Jessica’s favorite advice shares the same theme: don’t wait around for inspiration. Just get started!

Let’s jump in to her story:

βœ‹ At what moment did you realize you HAD to lose weight?

A few year ago my husband and I went on vacation to the beach. We had an amazing time and we took so many pictures to keep those memories. When we got back home from our trip, I started to scroll through all the pictures we had taken and realized that I needed to make a change! I had stayed in shape through dance while I was in high school but when I had my daughter, I just couldn’t find the time to stay in shape anymore.

1️⃣ What was the first step you took towards transforming your body?

I was living in a townhouse that had a community gym. I decided that I would start small and spend 30 minutes a day at the gym. After a few months of learning and realizing that I actually liked working out, I wanted to make fitness a part of my life.

My routine was showing up everyday and learning how to use the machines, learning something new. As I learn how to use the machines and what each one was for, I began to add structure to my workouts after reading different post online.

πŸ’» What apps/websites/resources did you use?

Pinterest was my GAME CHANGER!

All of the videos and pictures taught me so much. <J>

🍳 What kind of adjustments did you make to your diet?

Meal prepping and snack prepping stopped me from snacking. I plan out what I was going to eat and eventually started to look forward to all of my meals. Flavored almonds are a staple food I’d turn to a lot. They come in sweet or savory flavors and are easy to pack! On Sundays, I would give myself a few hours to splurge on on doughnuts to keep me happy lol.

In terms of supplements, I took a daily multivitamin. I wanted to get most of my nutrients from my food and a multivitamin help fill in the gaps.

πŸ’ͺ Can you talk a little bit about what you found to work the best in terms of physical exercise? What worked best for you and why?

Strength training has always worked best for me. I love lifting heavy.

By sticking to my diet and lifting weights 5-6 days a week, I was able to build muscle and keep the body fat off. I tried diet pills, cardio, and different fad diets but the weight would always come back. Once I built more muscle, it allowed me to stay lean and build my body the way I wanted.

🧾 What was the best advice you received (or read) along the way?

Don’t be a sandbagger and don’t think! Just Do IT!

πŸ₯΅ What was the hardest part about your journey? How did you overcome it?

Building the confidence to go to the gym. When you walk into the gym for the first time, you see so much intimidating equipment and people. You don’t know what anything does and you are afraid to ask strangers. I decided that I had to be at the gym. I made a playlist of all of my must that made me feel confident and pushed through it!

Years later I learned that people at the gym are the nicest people in the world. Everybody is there for the same reason and that’s to get healthy!

πŸ’‘ Was there an β€˜aha’ moment where everything began to click?

When I found my first true training partner. I found a training partner who was a physique competitor and she told me that I had a lot of potential but I had to do the work, and that if I did, it would be worth it.

😎 How has your life changed since the day you took your before photo?

My confidence is through is higher than it has ever been. I feel amazing!

πŸ‘©β€πŸ« You’re a personal trainer now! Was that a natural transition for you after transforming your own body? What went into your decision to start doing this kind of work?

The transition was natural! After the work I put in and the transformation I was able to make, I felt amazing. From then on, I knew I wanted to help everyone I could feel the same way. Once I became a trainer, I knew this was my calling.

Q: What makes a good personal trainer?

What makes me a good personal trainer is that I am very understanding because I have been there before. People have a common misconception that every personal trainer woke up in shape and have been that way their entire life. I know what the struggle is like and how hard it is so I use that experience to truly make a difference in everyone’s lives.

Q: Where can people go to learn more about you and your personal training services?

@JesFit4U: On Instagram, Facebook, and Reddit.

I provide virtual personal training. Workouts for people who are looking to stay fit at home whileΒ  dealing with COVID. I also provide daily live workouts, meal tips, fitness tips and I am More than happy to answer questions for anyone looking to start their fitness journey.

❀ Based on your experience, what advice would you give to our readers who are starting off as the β€˜old’ you?

Don’t think about it. You have to just go. When you have the feeling and want to work out, do it. Don’t leave any room for doubt. You have to be your own hype man.

It wont be easy but I promise you, it will be worth it.
